As a child, Dave Pelzer was forced to sleep in a garage without a blanket and fed only scraps the dog wouldn’t eat. He was poisoned and tortured almost to the point of death by his alchoholic mother who called him “It.” And worst of all, his father and brothers looked the other way. In his bestselling book A Child Called “It,” Dave describes his horrific childhood and how his dreams helped him survive.
Then one day, the nightmare ended and he was rescued. In his outstanding memoir The Lost Boy, Dave continues the harrowing, ultimately inspiring tale of how he found someone to love and a family to call his own. An inspiring testament to the triumph of the human spirit.

I have never cried reading a book before but this book sent me over the edge. I am not sure how anyone could ever be so cruel to anyone!

This was one of those most captivating books I have ever read. It was so sad but the author was so genuine, truthful and open about his past. I think it is so great he wrote this book to open people's eyes to how cold the world really can be.

I really think these books opened a lot of peoples eyes to what really goes on out in the world. This kind of stuff happens a lot that is why it is important for teachers and other outsiders to report what they see no matter how small the signs are. It was really hard for me to read these books! To think of people doing these things to a little child is un-bearable. I really like these books and I recomend them to anyone. I read them when I was in high school and then just recently bought the first two books.

I read both titles within this book looking and hoping for an answer or reason for how and why someone would treat any child let alone their own child this way. It wasn't until I was telling others about David's story that I understood that by telling his story he made peace with it all.
This book gave me a reknewed since of purpose as I am a child advocate. It helps me to believe that what I do makes a difference even when I feel like I failed or am unappreciated. It makes you sad, angry, and at a lost for words. I ended with thinking, My God My God!!

I read this book years ago when I did not even like to read. My view on reading was "gosh do I have to!" I orginally picked this book for a book report in high school and from the first sentance could not put it down and even read it within two days. A year after I read a child called "it" I met the author and he told his story and what he has over come. I didnt relize when reading the book that it was all true. I thought "fluff" was added to make it even better. Thats not the case with this book every detail actually happened to him. Truely a sad book but a awesome read. I have even read it multipul times since then. The book I own is falling apart I have read it so much.
